A two day break from writing? Laziness!
Over the past few weeks, the neighborhood is starting to coalesce ($5!), and it's pretty awesome. When it doesn't feel weird to wander over into the neighbor's yard just to say "hi", that's a good thing. And there are more eyes to watch everything that goes on, so everyone and everything is safer. Also a good thing.
During one of the neighborhood gatherings we discovered that everyone had been watching a family of geese that had settled into the pond at the corner of the big intersection nearby.. Mom, Dad, and three goslings. Everyone worried about them, because geese are so freakin' stupid. They would wander across the (incredibly busy) streets all the time.
Well, first the dad and one of the babies got hit, and our neighbor was pretty sure it was her fault. She'd tried to feed the family and the dad got mad and took off running. Eeek. Then for the longest time it was the mom and the two remaining babies. They were doing well, and getting really big. Then, on the fourth as we were driving to KB's house, we saw the mom on the side of the road.. someone had hit her. Oh nooooo! And now the babies are nowhere to be found. We're hoping that they were big enough that they can just take care of themselves. But, man.. how sad! And how dumb can they be?? We're hoping that next year they set up shop in a quieter part of the neighborhood.
Aside from goose-mourning, it's been a nice weekend. We didn't get to see fireworks at the lake. I was disappointed, and we headed for home, only to find that our neighbor had spent a ton of money on PRO fireworks and we had a great show that we could watch from the front yard! Much much better.. and a lesson in how sometimes plans change for the better, so just trust that everything happens for a reason. We got to spend time with all the kids, have dinner and cards with friends (Three words: Cards. Against. Humanity. F**king Hilarious!), and just hang out and enjoy life. It feels like it's been a long four days, and that's when you know that you're doing the weekend correctly.
And there's still one more day to enjoy! Ciao.
We played CAH on the 4th - what a riot with sisters and cousins!
